GOTS - Certified Organic Cotton
I am pleased to offer the first hammock brand to be GOTS certified. When choosing their Colombian manufacturing partner, La Siesta wants to really focus on their commitment to ecological and social sustainability and knew that in the long term it just simply made sense to rely on organic cotton.
What does sustainable textile production mean?
Sustainability in the production chain of textiles begins with the cultivation of organically produced raw materials, followed by environmentally sound and socially responsible manufacturing. This includes transparent documentation and clear labeling. In this way, all steps and all parties involved are held to the same standards.
Alexander Grisar has taken on the challenge to draw attention to the ecological and economic future prospects of organic cotton in Latin America. He advises farmers, industrial companies, interest groups and governments on project development. He also helps to get know-how and financial support from development aid organizations and brands for these projects.
FSC® Certified Sustainable Wood
All wood used by LA SIESTA is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®. By doing so we can guarantee that the trees used for our products have been managed according to the principles of sustainability.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the most important international organisation evaluating ecologically and socially sustainable forestry and wood processing.
LA SIESTA Relies on FSC®
We started converting to FSC-certified timbers in 2008 and have steadily increased our supply from them ever since. All wood used for LA SIESTA hammock stands, spreader bar hammocks and hanging chairs are made from FSC certified materials. We can thus guarantee our wood comes from exemplary and sustainable production practices.
Sustainable forestry is one of the most basic necessities for improving our carbon footprint, preserving biodiversity, and safeguarding the survival of future generations. With the purchase of FSC®-certified products, our customers contribute to the exemplary management of our forests and can relax in their hammocks with a clear conscience.
CENTRO LA SIESTA
Since 2014, La Siesta have worked with José Expedito de Moura and the non-profit organization Tor zur Hoffnung e.V. to open up new perspectives for children from the Graviola favela in Fortaleza. There the children are instilled with a sense of teamwork, respect, diligence and reliability.
At first glance, Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil is a dream come true of sun, beach and sea. However, behind the boardwalks and boulevards the reality is very different: poverty, domestic violence and drugs are rampant.
That's why we worked to build our own youth center, and in 2015 we launched the CENTRO LA SIESTA. The youth center is funded by LA SIESTA and operated by Dito.
